Road and Course Permit meeting

Today, I met with the City of Georgetown about my preferred course for this year’s event.   Georgetown has some really great areas for running and my preferred course travels through many of these spots.  The course starts and finishes in Downtown Georgetown, Texas.  Then travels through historic Southwestern University and down into San Gabriel Park.  It covers some of Georgetown quaint neighborhoods on its way out to Lake Georgetown and over the dam.  Towards the end of the event the route drops onto the San Gabriel River North Fork trail back into San Gabriel Park and then back into Downtown Georgetown.

Nonetheless, the course also has a few potential issues.  There are a few roads that have a fair amount of traffic on Sunday Mornings, this course would require us to cross over and run down FM 971 and across Williams Drive at Shell and DB Wood Roads, then it would require us to cross over DB Wood Road.  FM 971 would be early in the morning and we would clear this area by approximately 8:00 am, so this would likely not be a big deal.  Although the other 2 road crossings of Williams Dr. and DB Wood Road, would encounter a bit more inconvenience for motorists.

During our meeting the city was realistic and open minded.  Since this course covers such a large area we have decided to reconvene with a meeting that would involve more of the parties involved, like TXDoT, Williamson County and Georgetown City Police.
